Bio
Mónica Lima is a portuguese filmmaker based in Lisbon. She studied Visual Arts in Lisbon (FBAUL), and Writing and Directing in Prague (FAMU) and Berlin (DFFB).
Her short film “Natureza Humana” has won various awards, including the Ammodo Tiger Short Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2023 and the Best Portuguese Film at Curtas Vila do Conde. It has been selected for various international film festivals, such as New Directors/New Films, Guadalajara, Melbourne and Vienna Shorts.
Her previous films "The Silence Between Two Songs", "Viktoria", and "Summer Saturn" have also been shown at international film festivals like Angers Premiers Plans, Leuven, Dresden, Vila do Conde and IndieLisboa, receiving various awards and mentions.
In addition to her filmmaking, Mónica Lima has been working as a screenwriter, assistant director, and lecturer in directing and screenwriting classes.
She is currently in pre-production of her first feature-length film, which has received financial support from ICA. She has also participated in prestigious programs such as the Oxbelly Writing and Directing Lab (Sundance/Faliro House) and Writing Cinema Today of Foundation Calouste Gulbenkian.
At the heart of her cinema is a fascination with characters trapped in existential limbo and the quest for meaning in contemporary life.
